If you follow the Elbe River inland from Europe’s north coast, you’ll find one of the continent’s premier destination cities, Hamburg. The German city is regularly regarded as having some of the best nightlife in the world and features many of the most exceptional hotels in Germany as well. Its location makes it great for sailing in, but it’s a very travel friendly city in general with both airport and train access from all over Europe. If you’re looking for a superb vacation spot or just wanting to add some worthwhile stops along a journey through the region…
Here are of our favorite reasons to check out the lovely German city of Hamburg:
- The city is a major transportation hub for Europe and one of its biggest draws is the massive warehouse district near the port. Made up of several towering complexes of truly breathtaking architectural mastery, a boat trip through the area is a great way to spend some time relaxing and getting a different perspective of the city than you’ll get on land. While on shore, hiking along the Elbe adds some natural beauty to the city that paints a stark natural contrast to the nearby industrial areas.
- There are also some exquisite canal-front shopping in the Karoviertel district if you’d rather explore the city’s shoppes and boutiques. For the even more adventurous you can check out the Kiez, which is where you’ll find the majority of Hamburg’s entertainment and its notorious red-light district and thriving nightlife.
- Dining and Refreshments
- While Germany is world-renowned for its beers, there are some great wine bars around the city as well, such as Le Meridien’s Heritage and Radisson Blu’s Weinbar 26 which both offer exceptional elevated views looking over the city. If you’re feeling carnivorous then Estancia Steaks offers both exceptional cuts of beef and other German staples along with an extraordinary drink menu, which makes it a great place to experience the regions famous meats. The Table Kevin Fehling on the other hand offers some of the finest European cuisines in the country, but expect a price tag that is equally jaw-dropping.
- Hamburg has several fantastic hotels and while we’ll recommend a few, you really can’t go wrong with any of these. The Park Hyatt Hamburg might be a slight favorite of ours due to the stunning interior design that feels both modern and sophisticated while maintaining a classic flair that has a palpable sense of elegance to it. The Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is an excellent choice if you want a waterfront view from your suite. If you fancy something a bit more exclusive, then the Hotel Louis C Jacob is as historic and iconic as it is luxurious and feels every bit as 5 star as the Hyatt and Fairmont in our opinion.
